Texas Motor Speedway
Texas Motor Speedway is located on 1,000 acres in Fort Worth's northern region, along the historical Chisholm Trail. Construction began on this brand new 1.5 mile quad-oval track on April 11, 1995. The official ground breaking ceremony was held on the same day. Not even one year later, on February 29, 1996, Texas Motor Speedway officially opened under the operation and ownership of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., which is the same company holding ownership in Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway.
Located at 3545 Lone Star Circle, the Texas Motor Speedway only adds credence to the saying that everything is bigger in Texas. Not only that, but also perhaps faster as well. In fact, Texas Motor Speedway is considered the fastest non-restrictor plate racetrack on the NASCAR circuit according to qualifying speeds during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Such speeds exceeded 192mph and 200mph in corner entry. These spectacular achievements are obtained on 24 degrees banking in every turn.
Each year, Texas Motor Speedway welcomes the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series events. In addition, the IRL makes an annual stop at this powerhouse racetrack. With seating accommodations for more than 150,000 spectators, 194 suites and a variety of luxurious amenities, Texas Motor Speedway has earned it's regular spot on the NASCAR circuit.
Souvenir shoppers will enjoy Speedway World, which is the racetrack's official store. Along with merchandise and collectibles, Speedway World also allows a behind-the-scenes look at the control tower and infield. For the fans who just cannot get close enough to the action, special tours are offered in order to give race fans a look at the inner workings of Texas Motor Speedway. Tour highlights include track laps, a stop at pit road, the gift shop, tour of luxury suites, a stroll into victory lane and the concourse.
The newest addition to Texas Motor Speedway is The Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame. This new construction will commemorate outstanding performers in Texas racing, which includes everyone from NASCAR to IRL and pit crews to drag racers. The proceeds from the Hall of Fame will benefit the children at Happy Hill Farm, which is a residential school for children at risk in Granbury, Texas, in association with Speedway Children's Charities. This new construction will be located near the Texas Motor Speedway's South Tunnel. It will be a permanent structure of the speedway and will be open year round.
