Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Las Vegas Motor Speedway has become an important stop on the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit. Each year, racing's biggest names roar into Vegas and bring legions on fans along for the ride. In 2006, Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be one of only six tracks that will conduct tests for the NASCAR Nextel Cup teams. The 2006 season will mark the seventh year that Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been chosen to serve as a testing site for race teams. The speedway opens it's grandstand, at no charge, for fans to view these practice sessions.

In 2006, Las Vegas Motor Speedway will celebrate it's 10th anniversary. But, that's not the only thing to celebrate. Speedway officials announced that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which was the first major NASCAR series to compete at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will return toward the end of the season. This 1.5 mile super speedway welcomed the Craftsman Truck series in November 1996 as Jack Sprague drove all the way to victory lane. The NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series teams will compete earlier in the year followed by the reappearance of the Craftsman Series, which Las Vegas Motor Speedway will proudly welcome back.

Many changes have come about during the years at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With the fan base for NASCAR growing by the day, more and more facilities are beginning to recognize the need for additional seating. The Richard Petty Terrace is one of the newest additions to Lowe's Motor Speedway and their effort to accommodate every fan. Named after one of the legendary racers of our time, the Richard Petty Terrace is a brand new 17,000 seat grandstand. Construction includes red, white and blue seats with flip-down chairs with cup holders and a spectacular view of the action on the track. The new grandstand will open during the March 2006 Nextel and Busch Series competition weekend. This new addition will be similar to the Dale Earnhardt Terrace, which opened in 2004.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. This company is one of the leading marketer and promoter companies, for motorsports entertainment, in the United States. In addition to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, SMI owns and operates the following premiere facilities: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte, Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and Texas Motor Speedway. Speedway Motorsports, Inc. also offers event souvenir merchandising through its subsidiary, while manufacturing and distributing modified cars through its 600 Racing subsidiary.
