Chase Field
Home of the Arizona Diamondbacks
Chase Field, formerly known as BankOne Ballpark, opened in March 1998. The stadium's name was changed after BankOne merged with J.P. Morgan Chase & Company. Under the architectural guidance of Ellerbe Becket and Bill Johnson, construction began in 1995 with the building expertise of Huber, Hunt & Nichols Inc. When complete, the estimated cost was between $350-400 million with 68% of that cost deriving from a portion of sales ax and the remaining 32% from the owners of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who proudly call Chase Field home.
The year of 1998 was promising for the Diamondbacks as they enjoyed competition at their newly constructed stadium and won their first game in April 1998 against San Francisco. Later that same year, Arizona went on to win seven MLB games in a row, which put them in a tie for the longest winning streak of any expansion team in history.
Featuring a retractable roof and many other amenities, Chase Field is truly a modern facility with a classic appeal. According to the agreement between Chase Field and the Diamondbacks, this MLB expansion team will occupy the stadium for a minimum of 30 years and an additional possibility of a 10 year extension at the request of the Diamondbacks. A great number of spectators, 48,569 to be exact, can kick back and enjoy the great American game of baseball at Chase Field. With 69 luxury suites and six specialty party suites, fans have found comfort in the spacious 17,000 sq. ft. facility.
Many of baseball's greatest moments have happened here at Chase Field, including Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 of the 2001 World Series with the Diamondbacks ultimately bringing home the championship. Chase Field was the first stadium to ever be built featuring a retractable roof and natural grass. Today, the stadium features a swimming pool, memorabilia from the Baseball Hall of Fame and plenty of food at the Front Row Sports Grill. The stadium also features a store with a large variety of baseball memorabilia, including both vintage and current uniforms from all Major League Baseball teams.
Chase Field, though still a young in years, has certainly made it's mark in the history books. Built to house the Arizona Diamondbacks as they became one of the league's newest expansion teams in 1998, Chase Field has watched the team achieve great success. The Diamondbacks call it home and the fans, who don't want to miss a minute of the action, call to order tickets.
